Darwen Tower ~ 13th Aug

As already indicated by TF, yesterday's outing was excellent, with a good turn-out and a route that was new to most of us. There was no doubt that JtE's route was direct, every time you looked up the ToT was square in front of you, but I do wonder if it was the optimum.

There was quite a lot of rough ground, and on the section from GR 646 156 to Redmond's Edge there was a fair bit of height lost. From GR 665 203 t'Y took the "old" route along the ridge and was at the Tower a few minutes before the rest of us, but it wasn't clear how much of this was due to route choice, and how much was due to his superior (!) fitness. Interesting.

For the record, Kev/The Iceman/KLM and I went out in 1:49, hung around at the Tower for about a minute, and then returned by the same route (except that we headed straight back to the road from New Barn Farm) in 1:42. Expected to be back a slightly sooner, as we had pushed on bit, although I was wearying towards the end.

More investigation needed.
