Winter Hill Air Disaster 1958

Anyone in the vicinity of the Winter Hill TV station over the next few days may like to take a moment to read the memorial plaque facing the road on the side of the building.

You will see that the crash took place on Thursday 27th February 1958, so Weds 27th Feb '08 will be the 50th anniversary of that tragic morning when 35 people lost their lives.

That is well spotted.

Curiously close to Man Utd's Munich

Being the elder, I remember the disaster very well. I worked on Chorley New Road, near to Bolton Royal Infirmary, and I remember the fleets of ambulances going along the road. I also remember the newspaper reports. Mind you, I not only remember the construction of the present mast, but also the one before that!

From YJ

I too remember the crash. My father, a freelance journalist, roped me in to phone a list of names of those killed in the crash to the newspapers.
